Why am I seeing a security certificate warning in my email app?

If your mail program pops up a warning like "the identity of this server cannot be verified" or "security certificate has expired," here's what it means and what to do.

What it means

Mail servers prove their identity with a security certificate. The warning appears when your mail app can't validate the server's certificate. It is usually caused by one of two things:

  1. A settings mismatch on your device — for example, the server name in your account settings doesn't exactly match the certificate (check it's exactly mail.worldline.ca), or the port and SSL option are mismatched.
  2. A certificate problem on the server side — for example an expired certificate. This one is ours to fix, not yours.

What to do

  1. Check your account settings: incoming mail.worldline.ca port 993 (IMAP, SSL), outgoing mail.worldline.ca port 465 (SSL) or 587 (STARTTLS). Fix any mismatch and try again.
  2. If the settings are right and the warning persists, don't repeatedly tap "trust anyway" — report it to support so we can fix the certificate.
  3. In the meantime, use webmail at https://webmail.worldline.ca — your mail keeps working there while we sort out the certificate.

Not sure an email about your account is really from us?

Certificate warnings sometimes make people worry about scam emails too, so a quick note: if you receive an email claiming to be from Worldline that asks you to click a link and enter your password or make an urgent security change, and you're not sure it's genuine, don't click. Forward it to support@worldline.ca and we'll confirm whether it's really ours.
