How do I set up my home phone adapter (Grandstream HT801)?
The Grandstream HT801 is the small box that connects your regular telephone to Worldline home phone service. It arrives pre-configured — setup is just three cables.
What's on the back
- Phone port: for your telephone's cord (standard RJ-11 phone cable)
- Internet port: for the ethernet cable to your modem
- Micro-USB power port: for the included power supply
- Reset button: hold 7 seconds to factory reset (see below)
Setup steps
- Plug your telephone's cord into the Phone port on the adapter.
- Connect the ethernet cable from the adapter's Internet port to a numbered LAN port on your modem. Do not use the modem's WAN/Internet port — on SmartRG modems especially, the adapter must go into a LAN/Ethernet port.
- Connect the power supply and plug it in.
- Wait 2–3 minutes. The adapter powers up, connects, and registers automatically.
- Pick up your phone and listen for a dial tone.
What the lights mean
Light | Solid | Flashing | Off |
|---|---|---|---|
Power | Adapter is on | — | No power |
Internet | Connected to the modem | — | Check the ethernet cable |
Phone | Registered — ready to make calls | Trying to register | Not registered |
If it doesn't register (no phone light)
- Confirm your internet is working — the adapter needs it.
- Reseat the ethernet cable at both ends (adapter Internet port ↔ modem LAN port).
- Power-cycle both the modem and the adapter: unplug both, wait 30 seconds, plug back in, wait 2–3 minutes.
- Still no phone light? Contact support — the line may need to be activated on our end.
Factory reset (also updates the adapter's software)
If support asks you to reset the adapter: press and hold the reset button for 7 seconds. The adapter reboots, re-downloads its configuration automatically, and updates its software if a newer version is available. Wait until the lights are stable, then test for a dial tone. There's nothing you need to configure manually afterwards — please don't change settings inside the adapter, as that can knock it off our network.
Haven't received your adapter yet?
Your home phone can't work without it. If your service start date has arrived but no adapter has, contact support right away with your order details so we can track the shipment.
