# Can I use my own router with Worldline?

Yes — you can use your own WiFi router with Worldline internet. What's involved depends on which Worldline modem you have.

## If your modem has no WiFi (e.g. Technicolor TC4400 / TC4234)

These are ethernet-only modems, so a router is actually required for WiFi. No special configuration needed:

1. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem's LAN port to your router's **WAN/Internet** port.
2. Power the router on and set up its WiFi network using the router's own instructions.

## If your modem has built-in WiFi (Hitron, SmartRG, Kasda)

You have two options:

**Option A — simplest: just plug your router in.** Connect your router's WAN port to a LAN port on the modem. This works for most households. Downsides: two WiFi networks will exist (you can turn off the modem's WiFi), and some gaming or advanced setups can hit "double NAT" quirks.

**Option B — bridge mode (recommended for advanced users).** Bridge mode turns off the modem's routing and WiFi entirely and hands the connection straight to your router. See:

- "How do I put my Hitron cable modem into bridge mode?" (cable customers)
- "How do I put my DSL modem into bridge mode?" (DSL customers — SmartRG models)

**Important for DSL customers:** after bridging, your own router must make the connection using **PPPoE** with your Worldline network username and password. Contact support before you start and we'll give you your PPPoE credentials.

## Things to know before you switch

- **Home phone:** if your phone plugs directly into the modem's phone port, or you have a phone adapter connected to the modem, contact support before bridging — we'll make sure your phone service keeps working.
- **Support boundaries:** we can help with the Worldline modem side, but we can't configure every third-party router model. Have your router's manual (or its app) handy.
- **Older SmartRG models** (e.g. SR603n, SR630n): the same approach applies, but menu layouts vary — contact support if the screens don't match the bridge-mode article.
- Keep your Worldline equipment even if you bridge it — rental equipment still needs to be returned if you ever cancel.
